Organic Farm Life at Bassett Farms
My Sunday was spent going back to my roots. I had the pleasure of visiting Bassett Farms in Davisburg, MI. I was introduced to this lovely farm by my friend, known by my kids as Nana Carol. This family-owned business grows certified organic produce and focuses on sustainable agriculture. I love them for that!
I dropped the top in the Jeep to enjoy the country fresh air as we drove from Commerce Township. During the drive, we saw neighborhoods, farms, fields, and people waterskiing and fishing on Big Lake, and as we were winding down the dirt roads, we waved "hi" to two people riding horses. That was quite the treat for all of us, especially my 11-year-old daughter. The wooded drive was serving up farm-fresh oxygen. The smell of the air and the soft breeze were intoxicating.
We were greeted with a big smile by farm owner and operator, Amy Bassett. We chatted all about farm life and the evolution of Bassett Farms. Details included the adventures of beekeeping and farming honey as well as the days when they had chickens for farm fresh eggs. She took us for a ride on her cozy golf cart and escorted us to her greenhouse where all of the produce-growing magic happens. Her quaint farm was packed full of the sweetest cherry tomatoes I have ever tasted, as well as a variety of herbs, peppers, cucumbers, eggplant and so much more in the process of growing.
If you're looking for a relaxing family day while getting some of the freshest and tastiest produce in town, visit Bassett Farms. Amy shares her farm and produce by appointment through their Facebook page @TheBassettFarm.
